Art Competition for Secondary Schools 2009
ENTRIES FOR THIS COMPETITION CLOSED ON 7 AUGUST 2009
The Strokes of Genius art competition invited students in grades 10-12 to showcase their artistic talents by portraying a specific theme through the medium of oil painting.
The theme for 2009 was: Shoprite - Building Communities through Art.
The competition serves to celebrate the extraordinary talent of our youth while allowing them an opportunity to express the great pride they have for the communities they live in.
Schools who wished to take part submitted rough sketches of their concepts for preliminary judging. Based on the rough sketches the best secondary schools per province were selected to create and submit final art works. These schools each received an artists kit containing oil paints, brushes and blocked canvasses. Submissions were created with the provided materials.
The best paintings from all provinces will be displayed at a final Strokes of Genius exhibition planned for October this year, where three overall winners will be announced.
